PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) has similar properties to Teflon, including an extremely low coefficient of friction (it doesn't stick to other materials and it resists surface wear). PTFE also exhibits a useful service life from below -100 degrees Fahrenheit, to temperatures of over 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Its resistance to solvents is also excellent throughout a wide range of temperatures. PTFE has a high dielectric strength (600 volts/millimeter) which makes it a good insulator. PTFE is also very non-hydroscopic, or water resistant, absorbing less than 0.01% of its weight if exposed to water for a 24 hour period. PTFE has below average tensile strength, at 3000 psi (pounds per square inch).

Vespel is a high performance polyimide material, which can operate continuously from cryogenic temperatures to 550 degrees Fahrenheit, with excursions to 900 degrees Fahrenheit. Vespel parts exhibit superior performance in a variety of applications requiring low wear and long life in severe environments. Vespel, unlike most plastics, is non-flammable. Parts perform without melting or softening, and resist radiation sterilization more effectively than most other plastics. Vespel parts exhibit a very low level of outgassing, even in high vacuum environments, and are chemically compatible with most fuels, solvents, lubricants and hydraulic fluids. Vespel has above average tensile strength for a polymer, at 12,600 psi (pounds per square inch). Vespel will absorb 0.24% of its weight when exposed to water for 24 hours. Vespel is extremely impact resistant, rated at 14 foot pounds (on the Izod Impact Scale), which compares favorably against Nylon 6/6 at 3 foot pounds. Vespel also has excellent insulating properties, measured in terms of dielectric strength, with a rating of 260 volts/millimeter.

Stainless steels are used for their corrosion resistance, high-temperature strength, scaling resistance, and low-temperature toughness.  These properties account for their extremely wide use in practically every industry. Austenitic Stainless Steels are alloys of iron and carbon that contain between 16% and 30% Chromium, a maximum of 0.15% carbon, along with Nickel (or Manganese), and other alloying elements.  The chromium, which helps develop a passive surface oxide film, provides corrosion resistance in stainless steels.   Austenitic Stainless Steels are designated by a 3 digit SAE Stainless Steel Grade beginning with the number 3 (e.g. 304, 316).  Another common naming convention for Austenitic Stainless Steels are 18/8, 18/10, 18/0, etc. where the 18 refers to the % of Chromium and 8 to the % of Nickel contained in the material.

Fiberglass washers are insulators of both thermal and electrical energy. They are chemically resistant, and have a high strength to weight ratio. This series is available from stock in sizes from numbe 2 thru 1" bolt sizes. Larger sizes have an oversized outside diameter, which protects and insulates.

Made in the USA. These flat washers are produced in the USA for excellent quality conformance. One of the significant differences between less expensive imported products and ours are the way we stamp. Many cheap imports are produced on gang dies that produce 10 or more washers per stroke of the press. Using such a large die means that the individual washer sets are not adjustable - when the punch wears, the dimensions change and there is no way to fix this as the press produces washers, leading to a large variation in the finished part.

Materials available in many other countries are not as consistent as the domestic steels we use, which gives the imports a cheaper cost, but can lead to failures and inconsistencies when the products are used. The Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) was created to address this problem. Our materials are DFARS compliant although we do not supply the certification except on special order.

Nylon 6/6 is a general purpose thermoplastic with outstanding resistance to organic chemicals, acids and alkalis. Nylon wears well against other surfaces; it is readily machinable and may be milled, turned and cut with conventional machine tools. Washers are generally round plates with a hole, designed to distribute the load on a threaded fastener. They can also be used as spacers or to reduce vibration.

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is a superpolymer, or high performance thermoplastic which has excellent chemical resistance and is rated for continuous service to 464 degrees Fahrenheit. It has the best fire safety rating of all thermoplastics. It can be radiation sterilized, tolerating radiation to 1100 M rads without undergoing significant change. The Peek used in these fasteners has been reinforced with 30% glass fibers which improves tensile strength to 22,600 psi (pounds per square inch.). Peek resists water absorption, absorbing 0.11% when exposed to water for 24 hours. Peek is extremely impact resistant, rated at 13.6 foot pounds (on the Izod Impact Scale), which compares favorably against Nylon 6/6 at 3 foot pounds. Peek is below average in terms of dielectric strength, for a plastic, with a rating of 175 volts/millimeter (compared to Nylon with a rating of 550 volts/millimeter).
