  • Flat Washers are an economical choice
  • Stainless Steel is suitable where formability and cost are important considerations
  • Size Name corresponds to matching screw or bolt size
Standard flat washers are an economical choice when your application calls for spacers, shims, or re-enforcements with nominal dimensions only.

Stainless steels are used for their corrosion resistance, high-temperature strength, scaling resistance, and low-temperature toughness.  These properties account for their extremely wide use in practically every industry. Austenitic Stainless Steels are alloys of iron and carbon that contain between 16% and 30% Chromium, a maximum of 0.15% carbon, along with Nickel (or Manganese), and other alloying elements.  The chromium, which helps develop a passive surface oxide film, provides corrosion resistance in stainless steels.   Austenitic Stainless Steels are designated by a 3 digit SAE Stainless Steel Grade beginning with the number 3 (e.g. 304, 316).  Another common naming convention for Austenitic Stainless Steels are 18/8, 18/10, 18/0, etc. where the 18 refers to the % of Chromium and 8 to the % of Nickel contained in the material.

Component Flat Washer, 17-4PH Stainless Steel, Plain Finish, Round Shape, USA Made, 0.781" ID, 1.625" OD, 0.156" Thick (Pack of 1) Feature

  • Component Flat Washers are manufactured with thicker materials for extra strength and load distribution properties
  • The most popular sizes of extra strength steel washers in a corrosion resistant stainless steel, that is also Thru Hardened - parts are magnetic
  • 17-4 Stainless Steel allows for Thru Hardening for extra strength - the carbon present in the stainless that allows for hardening does reduce the corrosion resistance
  • Used anywhere a thick, strong, and corrosion resistant good looking washer is required
  • Made In USA for excellent quality conformance
Component Flat Washers are named for their original popularity as a component of a jig or fixture, where a thicker washer was needed for the extra strength and load distribution properties that accompany the extra thickness. Our Component Washers are available from #4 screw size all the way thru 1-1/2" Bolt sizes. All Component Washers are thicker than any standard washer in general use. We provide two lines from stock - Thick and Extra Thick. Smaller diameters have a 5/64" thickness, going all the way up to 3/8" thickness, with the 1/8" thick line being the most popular. These washers are either stamped on power presses or turned on our lathes depending on the quantities we manufacture, and the wall thickness of the washer, which is the relationship between the thickness and the Inner Diameter dimension. All of these are suitable for use anywhere extra strength is needed. 17-4PH Stainless Steel material which is Thru Hardened offers excellent strength and hardness. They are magnetic, and are a dark mottled blue color.

Made in the USA. These flat washers are produced in the USA for excellent quality conformance. One of the significant differences between less expensive imported products and ours are the way we stamp. Many cheap imports are produced on gang dies that produce 10 or more washers per stroke of the press. Using such a large die means that the individual washer sets are not adjustable - when the punch wears, the dimensions change and there is no way to fix this as the press produces washers, leading to a large variation in the finished part.

Materials available in many other countries are not as consistent as the domestic steels we use, which gives the imports a cheaper cost, but can lead to failures and inconsistencies when the products are used. The Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) was created to address this problem. Our materials are DFARS compliant although we do not supply the certification except on special order.

  • Made in the USA to Military Specifications
  • MS15795 series is one of the original general purpose flat washer military specification
  • 18-8 Stainless Steel is the most common corrosion resistant Stainless Steel used in Flat Washers
  • The sizes listed in this specification cover most industrial and military uses
  • Tight tolerances allow use in precision applications
The 3 most popular Military Specification Flat Washers that we offer are MS15795, AN960, NAS1149, and NAS620. These specifications were originally formulated by the Armed Forces of the USA to standardize fasteners being used on military equipment. Over time they have become a popular choice for designers in all industries and programs. All of these specs call out the same material - a 300 series Stainless with passivation. The differences are in the manufacturing tolerances, and the different dimension traits. the first choice should be the MS15795 series, which has the largest OD, and the largest hole diameters. Second choice should be the NAS1149 series. This has a smaller outer diameter, and a tight tolerance on the inner diameter as well as the thickness. AN960 offers an equal to the NAS1149 but with a larger tolerance on the thickness. NAS620 should be the last choice - this series has the smallest outer diameter, and the widest range of thickness tolerance.

SAE Standard Flat Washer, 316 Stainless Steel, Round Shape, USA Made, #6 Bolt Size, 0.156" ID, 0.375" OD, 0.036-0.065" Thick (Pack of 25) Feature

  • Made in the USA to the Society of Automotive Engineers Standards
  • SAE Flat Washers have a closer fitting inner diameter, for a tighter fit to the bolt shoulder
  • 316 Stainless Steel offers more corrosion resistance over the standard 18-8 grades
  • SAE pattern flat washers are suitable for general use, and are designated as ASME B18.22.1 Type A preferred sizes
  • If you need a larger washer, see the USS Series
SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) and USS (United States Standard) washers are generally thought of together as the standard low cost option for flat washers in general usage. SAE washers are smaller in all dimensions than USS, so they don't distribute loads as well as the USS. However, they fit in many places that don't have room for the larger USS. These washers are generally manufactured out of low carbon steel with a zinc plating. We offer from stock a finely made washer out of 300 Series Stainless steel (302,303,304), which offers a combination of strength and corrosion resistance, or Type 316 Stainless Steel which offers a bit less strength, but more corroision resistance. Type 316 is specified in most marine and salt water environments, as well as most food processing and chemical plants.

  • Flat Washers are an economical choice
  • Nylon 6/6 is suitable where non-conductivity, corrosion resistance, and cost are important considerations
  • Size Name corresponds to matching screw or bolt size
Standard flat washers are an economical choice when your application calls for spacers, shims, or re-enforcements with nominal dimensions only.

Nylon 6/6 is a general purpose thermoplastic with outstanding resistance to organic chemicals, acids and alkalis. Nylon wears well against other surfaces; it is readily machinable and may be milled, turned and cut with conventional machine tools. It does exhibit some dimensional swelling in wet applications which should be taken into account with its use. Tensile strength of this material is 12,000 psi (pounds per square inch).

  • Dress Washers are turned on Lathes so the sides are completely straight, and are used in exposed applications for a finished or dress appearance.
  • Used in any application where the washers are part of the product design, and are visible to the user of the device
  • 18-8 Stainless Steel is a good looking (bright and shiny) material with good surface finish and corrosion resistance
  • Used on medical equipment, exercise equipment, instrument panels, etc.
  • Made In USA for excellent quality conformance
Dress flat washers are named because they are used to dress up a product. Machined from round stock, they present a finished appearance from all sizes, and front and back. There is no die break on the sides of these washers, as they were produced in Lathes rather than stamped from a coil. Used on faceplates, excercise equipment, high quality architectural hardware, medical and optical instruments, and anywhere that a good looking strong product is required. Extra thick material is used to increase both the strength and the appearance. 303 Series Stainless Steel provides both strength and corrosion resistance. Washers are slightly magnetic from the machining process. Made in the USA.

  • Washers distribute load on a fastener
  • PEEK is suitable where high temperature, strength, and chemical resistance are desirable
  • Size Name corresponds to matching screw or bolt size
Washers are generally round plates with a hole, designed to distribute the load on a threaded fastener. They can also be used as spacers or to reduce vibration.

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is a superpolymer, or high performance thermoplastic which has excellent chemical resistance and is rated for continuous service to 464 degrees Fahrenheit. It has the best fire safety rating of all thermoplastics. It can be radiation sterilized, tolerating radiation to 1100 M rads without undergoing significant change. The Peek used in these fasteners has been reinforced with 30% glass fibers which improves tensile strength to 22,600 psi (pounds per square inch.). Peek resists water absorption, absorbing 0.11% when exposed to water for 24 hours. Peek is extremely impact resistant, rated at 13.6 foot pounds (on the Izod Impact Scale), which compares favorably against Nylon 6/6 at 3 foot pounds. Peek is below average in terms of dielectric strength, for a plastic, with a rating of 175 volts/millimeter (compared to Nylon with a rating of 550 volts/millimeter).
